Myanmar submitted 3 Readiness Proposals to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) which have been approved. The first one aims to strengthen drought and flood management through improved science-based information availability and management in Myanmar. This technical assistance seeks to facilitate transfer of technologies and improve information base for climate change adaptation decision-making, focusing on two key vulnerable sectors – agriculture and water resources. The value is 340,000 USD. The second Readiness Proposal has an overall objectives to i) Strengthen the National Designated Authority (NDA) capacity to engage with the GCF and ii) Facilitate engagement of stakeholders in an inclusive process in defining country programme. These objectives will be met through drafting of a series of documentation and training materials, inclusive stakeholder consultations, meetings and trainings. The value is 300,000 USD.
The third Readiness Proposal supports achievement of national policy priorities for adaptation and mitigation to climate change that are elaborated in the Myanmar Climate Change Policy, Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan, Myanmar Action Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction, and the National Sustainable Development Strategy. Furthermore, this project will increase and build national capacities to manage investments that will assist the Government’s achievement of its INDC (and future NDC) commitments. The value is 850,000 USD.
